The Syndicat Mixte Flandre Morinie (SMFM)
The SMFM is a structure that brings together the Syndicats Mixtes SMLA, 2SMICTOM and SM SIROM. Created in July 2000, the SMFM is responsible for the treatment and energy recovery of household and similar waste for an area of more than 330,000 inhabitants. The objective of the SMFM's elected representatives is to pursue an ambitious waste recovery policy and to make the Flamoval Energy Recovery Centre (CVE) a high-performance facility that complies with environmental standards and uses the best available techniques. It should be noted that the discharge standards applicable to SMFM since its commissioning are more restrictive than the already draconian European standards.
With its technological choices, SMFM is already prepared to comply with future changes in environmental standards, particularly with regard to NOx (nitrogen oxide emissions).
In terms of energy recovery, the CVE Flamoval was built and commissioned in 2012, with a turbo-alternator unit designed to produce electricity continuously all year round.
The Arques waste-to-energy plant is located at 365 Avenue Isaac Newton Arques (62510).
The CVE Flamoval has the dual advantage of treating and reducing waste, as well as producing energy. Thanks to the heat generated by combustion, the CVE Flamoval will have supplied more than 20,800 megawatt-hours (Mwh) to the electricity grid by 2021. This exported production is equivalent to supplying electricity to 15,000 homes a year!
